Job Description
Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia's leading and most respected co-educational independent schools. With an enrolment of 3,400 students from ECLC to Year 12, it comprises three metropolitan campuses in Melbourne, at St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley, and Elsternwick, outdoor education sites at Chum Creek, Mallana, and Lochend, and a Year 9 residential campus at Clunes.
Applications are invited for a suitably qualified, passionate, and highly competent Classroom Music Teacher for this part-time (0.8 FTE) permanent position commencing in Term 1, 2026. This position is based at our St Kilda Road campus.
We are seeking a strings specialist, ideally with strong expertise in cello. The successful applicant will be a highly skilled, caring, and enthusiastic strings teacher who is passionate about teaching Junior and Middle School students, with the ability to teach across both small and large group settings. The ability to direct string ensembles is essential.
Key responsibilities and qualifications include:
• Significant experience teaching instrumental music (strings) to students, including but not limited to Years 2–7.
• Expertise in cello pedagogy and ensemble direction.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of the broader string family.
• Well-developed administrative and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse and vibrant team.
• Proven ability to deliver effective music curriculum using 21st-century teaching pedagogies.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to develop positive relationships within the school community.
