Job Description
Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia's leading and most respected co-educational independent schools. With an enrolment of 3,400 students from ECLC to Year 12, it comprises three metropolitan campuses in Melbourne, at St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley and Elsternwick, outdoor education sites at Chum Creek, Mallana and Lochend, and a Year 9 residential campus at Clunes.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Visiting Music Teachers (Voice) for a casual position based at the St Kilda Road campus, commencing at the beginning of February.
The position currently involves at least one full day of individual and small-group voice teaching voice students undertaking VCE Music performance units 1-4 and or IBDP. There is potential for the teaching load to increase over time. The successful applicant will be able to:
- Develop sound vocal technique appropriate to each student's stage of development
- Teach confidently across a wide range of musical styles
- Teach students from Upper Primary through to Senior School level
A key component of this role is choral leadership and ensemble direction. Wesley College is seeking a skilled conductor and mentor to work with its award-winning vocal ensembles, including:
- Small Jazz Vocal Ensemble (2 rehearsals per week)
- Large Jazz Vocal Ensemble (2 rehearsals per week)
These ensembles regularly perform and compete at a national level, including at Generations in Jazz. Applicants with demonstrated expertise in preparing choirs to a very high-performance standard are strongly encouraged to apply.
There will also be opportunities for the successful applicant to apply for future leadership roles, including Head of Voice and Head of Choirs.
